Sea Glass

pile of sea glass

I’ve been collecting sea glass for awhile, ever since moving onto this property when Julie and I got married. We’re on the water across from the small historic town of Oxford, where there used to be a small glass factory in the 20s and 30s. The factory closed a long time ago, but its debris continues to wash up onto our shoreline, along with a multitude of beer bottles from drunken sailors.

I’ve found the best time to go hunting for sea glass is in the late winter. The tide seems to be exceptionally low then, and when I’m able, I scavenge the shore. It’s actually a form of therapy for me.

After seeing my buckets full of sea glass sitting in the garage for several years, Julie finally decided to do something with it. She came up with the idea to make a mosaic-style pattern in serving trays, as well as use the glass in coasters, trivets, candle-vases, and decoration on frames. We now combine my wood working and her sea glass at the craft shows.

If you’re interested in having a special tray, set of coasters, or trivets made by Julie, you can send an email and tell her what you’re looking for. Just know that each tray comes out differently, depending on what pieces of sea glass we have at that time.

For the coasters, I made little boxes that hold a set of 4. You can pick what colors you’d like.
